Process-based modelling to enable predictive understanding of long term carbon and GHG fluxes in bioenergy cropping systems, in relation to site and climate

WP3 Objectives

  • Quantitatively test outputs of WP2 against field data.
  • Derive parameter values and assess their sensitivity for selected process-based models.
  • Provide a rigorous methodology to scale-up proven models from measurement sites to the whole UK.

WP3 Outputs

  • Tested and calibrated versions of existing process-based models simulating SOC, C sequestration and GHG balances from SRC and Miscanthus for a range of soil and climatic conditions.
  • Increased understanding of C and GHG balances under following land-use conversion to biomass crops for use in life cycle analyses etc.
  • Provide capacity for GIS-based GHG balance tools for land-use management.
