Goetz Richter heads the “Agro-ecological modelling and Systems Analysis” group, which delivers a better understanding of impact climate change on crop growth. Recently, his focus is on the system of perennial energy crops and their interaction with the environment from field to landscape scale. He closely works with colleagues in the Centre of Bioenergy and Climate Change, who provide a rich source of historic and newly generated data. His group has developed a field scale sink-source interaction model for biomass grasses (BEGRASS).

Role in Carbo-Biocrop

Goetz leads WP1, data synthesis and parameter derivation, with inputs from the University of East Anglia (Andrew Lovett). The objectives are to review all literature, extract relevant data and develop purpose-driven data banks during the project. A newly appointed PDRA will collate existing model inputs and newly derived parameters for turnover of soil organic carbon (SOC). He will also assist to establish “chrono-pedotransfer functions” for SOC under Miscanthus and SRC.

To WP3, in cooperation with Dr Junye Wang, North Wyke Research, his group will contribute to testing of the conceptual models and to the integration of model simulation of growth and carbon [and nitrogen] partitioning in the plants with the modules of soil carbon and nitrogen turnover.
